As they say, the truth is stranger than fiction….at least for me and why I am in Network Marketing.  For those of you who are members of Successful Network Marketing Now, you will have seen this story already, but I wanted to blog about it now.

was working in a Corporate job as a Financial Manager for a Fortune 100 (think Fortune 500, but the top 100 of those), I would have been what many considered to be career driven and moving quickly up the “Corporate Ladder”.

That is until I had my “I have had enough!!!” moment. I got to the point where I really hated the work environment I was in, was tired and grouchy all the time, and absolutely was not enjoying the corporate environment at all with the “Bottom line or else” mentality. I decided I had to make an exit strategy. I really wanted to get back to working for someone/something that would help others, something with a helpful “big picture” kind of company.

Parallel to what what I was doing in my career, my wife had started up a small business of her own. A Network Marketing Business. This business had developed into quite a good second/part time income for us.

So, this was my plan, we had enough $$ for me to quit, and look for a job for a couple of months. I wanted to get into a job more service oriented, where I could actually help and work with people. Besides, with my wife’s small business, we would be fine for a while. The plan was for me to help her expand her business, and look for a job at the same time. Her business fit in exactly with what I was looking for on a full-time basis. Let me say, this was the plan at least! I can still remember me coming home from the gym the first day after I had left my job saying, “Well, here I am, what do you need me to do here!”

To make a long story short, less than a week and a half after I left my job, my wife got a full-time job offer! And she wasn’t even looking for a job! It was as a City Planner (think zoning kind of stuff), which she did prior us moving around for my career. WOW! Long story made short, we decided for her to take the job, and for me to work on expanding her business. Or, should I say, our business now! What a shift that was for us back then…..

So, that is the beginning of it all for me. Not exactly the plan, but let me tell you I am enjoying the heck out of it. Its great to spend time with the kids. Its great to set my own schedule and accomplish MY goals. Its great to work like hell and actually get rewarded for it.

So there it is. I am an accidental Network and Internet Marketer and am the last person in the world who I thought would have ever done anything like this. But, life threw us a curve ball, I stepped up to the plate and really friggin hit that ball out of the park. It’s the life we want to live. I love this stuff and now do it full-time. I enjoy teaching people.

So there you have it, my “Why”.

Successful Network Marketing Now

I apologize for not posting much this past week. I was at my National Conference for my network marketing business and in workshops, updates, and meetings from morning till midnight.

I just wanted to write quickly about these national conventions and their importance. Bottom line, if you are in a network marketing business, YOU HAVE TO GO!!! End of story!!

Listen, I know that if you are doing this part time you might think they are not important and cost too much money or a pain to schedule. You can come up with any excuse in the book if you want to and just avoid network marketing success

However, the most important thing you get from your convention is BELIEF THAT IT CAN WORK. You will see those that are Million Dollar plus earners in your company get up on stage and tell their story of how they struggled when they started, and look at them now. Their stories are quite inspiring actually. Most importantly, you will see that you CAN make this a full-time job if you work at it. You will rub elbows with the most successful people in your company, hear updates, and be immersed in the successful culture of your company.

So when your comes around, GO TO IT, no matter what!

Network Marketing Training is an essential part of your progress toward living the dream of being your own boss, setting your own hours, and living the kind of life you want to live. However, in order to do that, you must study how to become a successful Network Marketer.

I am going to recommend two books today that should be on every network marketers success shelf. The first one teaches you skills on how to influence people, and the second teaches you how to write effective sales letters.

The first is Dale Carnegies “How to Win Friends and Influence People”. This is THE foundational people skills book out there, a classic on how to effectively work with people, which is a MUST in Network Marketing. Here is the excerpt from Amazon.com

“This grandfather of all people-skills books was first published in 1937. It was an overnight hit, eventually selling 15 million copies. How to Win Friends and Influence People is just as useful today as it was when it was first published, because Dale Carnegie had an understanding of human nature that will never be outdated. Financial success, Carnegie believed, is due 15 percent to professional knowledge and 85 percent to “the ability to express ideas, to assume leadership, and to arouse enthusiasm among people.” He teaches these skills through underlying principles of dealing with people so that they feel important and appreciated. The second book is Dan Kennedy’s “The Ultimate Sales Letter”. Why would you want to know how to write a sales letter? Convincing writing is another essential Network Marketer skill, especially if you are doing marketing on the Internet. Here is the description of the book from Amazon.com

So there you have it. Two classic books to further your network marketing training. Why would I choose older books, and not more contemporary ones? Because the skills to be a successful network marketer are timeless and transcend even the digital era: working with people, and influencing them with the written word.

Instead of the normal tools and tips for how to grow your business on-line, I wanted to take this time to talk about Network Marketing Success & Leadership.

By Leadership I do not mean the “Ra-Ra” meetings that many people in Network Marketing go to, or hosting opportunity calls or anything like that.

What I am talking about is TRUE leadership, the kind that transcends businesses and communities. It actually ties in with and enhances the concept of Attraction Marketing.

What I like to use as a model for myself is that of the “Servant Leader”. A servant leader remembers that they would be NOWHERE without their downline. Even the smallest, newest distributor in your downline is a valuable member of your group. They all have hopes, ambitions and dreams or their network marketing business.

What I like to do, and the kind of mindset that comes out of being a servant leader helps keep things in perspective for me. It helps me remember that that call from the frustrated new member who just can’t seem to sign anyone up is very important. It is absolutely the most important thing on that persons mind, and we as leaders have to remember that. We all started out as that new distributor who couldn’t understand the compensation plan or didn’t know how to cut and paste something onto their web browser and don’t know the first thing about advertising their network marketing business.

Being a servant leader is being there FOR people. Now you don’t want to fall into the trap of spending all of your time helping people who cannot help themselves (been there done that), but you do want to show your genuine concern and compassion for those in your network marketing business.

What this does is create LOYALTY in your organization. If you just some time MENTORING and HELPING PEOPLE HELP THEMSELVES, you will have earned their absolute loyalty. What loyalty brings is a SOLID DOWNLINE and helps prevent people from jumping ship and going onto the next available opportunity. An all too common occurance in this network marketing business

So, the moral of this post tonight is, be there for your downline. By helping them and being a servant leader, you will ultimately help yourself and your network marketing business. True leaders attract others to them.
